Most splash screens have eye-candy. Eye candy takes a minute or more to download via modem. The big draw back of splash screens is the long load time.

But it can be worse. I found a site that has a splash screen that does not even have eye candy. A pop-up window appears that says, "Please wait...while loading completes..."

This site still has this pop-up. You can visit the site. Be aware that it takes a minute or longer to load if you have a modem. The pop-up will not close during the loading.

This is more annoying than a splash screen that appears in the window you are waiting to load. It is not eye candy and it says to the person viewing the page that their time is not important. A viewer cannot read the page while the graphics are loading.

Any web site that sells products or services is interested in people's money, not their time. People want to buy your stuff as quickly as possible. That is the convenience of online purchasing.

Anytime you make a customer wait you risk losing the sale.

Just say no to splash screens.
